Obituary for Alexis R. Douville
Alexis R. Douville, 90, of Coventry, beloved husband for 62 years of Louise (Carignan) Douville, died Wednesday, 1/10/07, in Douglas manor in Windham Center, CT.
He was born July 16, 1916 in Black Lake, Canada the son of Wilfrid and Alice (Laliberte) Douville.
He was employed by the Electric Boat Division in Groton, first as a machinist and later as an inspector. During World War 2, he served with the 1st Marine Division, in the South and Central Pacific including the battle for Guadacanal. Alexis was active in coaching sports, including serving as vice-president of the Tri-State Carting Association. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Coventry.
Besides his wife, his survivors include three sons: Dennis Douville and his wife, Ellen of Northfield, NH, Donald Douville and his wife, Hannah of Storrs and Ernest “EJ” Douville of Coventry; a daughter, Suzanne Doucette of Jewett City, eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Lucienne Hebert of Franklin, NH and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Douville.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, 1/12/07, at 7 p.m. in the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT. The family will receive friends Friday, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
