Obituary for Aurore (Filteau) Almeida
Aurore Almeida, 93, of Eastford, passed away Sunday, 12/31/06, in St. Joseph Living Center in Windham. She was born in New Bedford, MA on March 31, 1913 the daughter of Louis and Clotilde (Veer) Filteau. She attended Sacred Heart School in Waukegan, CT and began working in Wauregan Mills at the age of 13, where she became the youngest receipient of the Gold Star Award for excellance in military production during World War 2. After working on twisters and warpers, she worked as a spinner until the mill closed in the late 50’s. Aurore married Frank Almeida in 1946 and lived in Danielson until they moved to Eastford in 1959. She was a communicant of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Warrenville. Aurore is survived by a sister, Anna Valliere of Willimantic; a niece, Theresa Prairie of New Britain and three nephews: Alexander Filteau of Moosup, Robert Filteau of Danielson and Emile Heroux of Arlington, VA. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Claire; two sisters, Angelina Viens and Claire Heroux, and five Filteau brothers: Louis, Albert, Arthur, Lucien and Gerard. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 1/3/07, at 10 a.m. in St. Philip the Apostle Church, Route 44 Warrenville followed by burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wauregan. Calling hours are Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Philip the Apostle Church, 64 Pompey Hollow Rd. Ashford, CT 06278-1540.
