Obituary for Bruce C. Lyon
Columbia- Bruce C. Lyon, 75 of Columbia passes away unexpectedly on January 19th, 2010. Bruce was born July 8th 1934, son of the late Wilfred and Rhea (Phaneuf) Lyon. Bruce graduated from Windham High School. He spent the past 48 years as owner of Lyon’s Barber Shop cutting hair in Coventry, a job he truly loved. He leaves behind to mourn him his wife of 34 years Geraldine of Columbia, his beloved daughters Fayne Sears and her husband Fritz of Columbia, Jennifer Hebert-Hickey and her husband Rich of Plympton, Mass., Aubin Haestad and her husband John of Middlebury, and Katherine Baldwin of Manchester. He is survived by his grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Jace, Bryce, Jaime, Lea, Kevin, Jessie, Danielle, Sara, and Trevor. He also leaves behind his brother David, and sisters Bernice, Janice, Joyce, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Alan and his daughter Connie. Bruce was a character who spoke his mind, and lived his life on his own terms. He was quick to share a story, or lend a hand to anyone in need. Besides cutting hair he had a passion for life that he passed on to his daughters and grandchildren, teaching them to fish, play poker, wield a hammer, and paint a barn. But he was happiest spending time with his family. Bruce led a remarkable life that he shared with a remarkable woman. He looked forward to coming home every night to his wife who always had dinner on the table. He was an everyday hero who went to work everyday, took care of his wife, and watched over his daughters. He will be deeply missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 23rd at 10:00 AM at St. Columba Church in Columbia. Calling hours will be Friday January 22nd from 5:00-8:00 PM at Bacon Funeral Home, Willimantic, CT. In lieu of flowers donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to St. Columba Church, Columbia, CT.
