Obituary for Caroline J. Hall) Martin
Caroline Jean Martin (Hall) left this world to meet her Lord and Savior on December 6th, 2018 after a seven month battle with cancer. Her beloved husband of 58 years was by her side. She was the most dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and cousin.
Born May 31, 1942, Carol was the daughter of James and Nancy Hall (Ferro). She was predeceased by her precious older sister, Lillian (Segar) and her nephew, Roger Segar, along with her parents. She was also predeceased by her treasured aunts Sara, Rose, Angelina, Mary, and Madeline. Carol leaves behind her husband, David G. Martin, and her two sons: David W. and Karen (Velazquez); Steven and Wendy (Dombkowski). She is also survived by five grandchildren: Christopher and Allison Knutson; Luis and Sarah (Tuers); Samuel; Kaeleen (Martin) and George Barr; and Lynsay Dashnaw.
Caroline grew up in Mansfield Hollow and later recounted many happy stories of growing up in the 50’s. She went to Mansfield schools and was part of the second graduating class of E.O. Smith High School. She and David were married in 1960. She worked for the Town of Mansfield in the Finance Department and also at the Mansfield Town Library. But her most important career was that of a wife, mother, and grandmother. She genuinely cherished every moment with her family. She loved every story book, every adventure, and every new craft she shared with her grandchildren. She had a profoundly deep appreciation for family and coming together to talk about both old times and new. She was the champion of the importance of “a good visit.”
Caroline was a special gift from God. Her warmth, humor, enthusiasm, wisdom, and generous hospitality were a continual blessing to her friends and family. She was a thoroughly creative spirit and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, and gardening. She was always keen to play a board game or share a cup of coffee. She was a long-time member of Willington Baptist Church – she loved Jesus and His people. She excelled in being present in her life and filled up every corner of her life with prayer and laughter. Words fail to describe what a profoundly beautiful soul Caroline is.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the friends and family who filled Caroline’s last days with prayers and songs, and also Douglas Manor for their exceptional care. Carol’s Wake will be held on December 14th from 6p to 8p at the Bacon Funeral Home in Willimantic. The funeral will be on Saturday, December 15th at 10am at Willington Baptist Church.
