Chester “Chet” P. Mantolesky, 74 of Mansfield Center died on Sunday, November 7,2021 at Hartford Hospital.
Born on May 21, 1947 in Willimantic, Chet was the second son of the late John Sr. and Dora (VanHaverbeke) Mantolesky. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother John, Jr. Chet leaves his brother’s former wife, Jean (Garvey) Mantolesky of Dudley, MA and their children, Sean Mantolesky of Worcester,MA and Heather Mantolesky of Webster, MA and her daughter, Jillian. He also leaves an uncle, Peter (Lilly) VanHaverbeke of Arlington, VT, aunts Anita (Henry) Duprey ofAndover, CT and Louise VanHaverbeke of Chester, CT. He was very fond of his lategrandparents, Peter and Leona VanHaverbeke, as their home was next to where he grew up in Mansfield Center, Chet also leaves many cousins.
He was appointed by Ambassador, Ulric Haynes, Jr in 1978 to the American Embassy inAlgiers. He was in charge of diplomatic protocol at the embassy residence, and arrangedand supervised all official entertainment functions, as well as maintained a costaccounting of operating the embassy residence. He resided at the embassy with the OfficialFamily. He received full diplomatic status from the U.S. Department of State.Returning in 1982 to the United States he co-owned Raintree’s Restaurant, and later wasthe owner and proprietor of The Boerum Hill Café both in Brooklyn, NY. He had a passion about the Mantolesky and VanHaverbeke families ancestry and enjoyedresearching this history.
