Obituary for David L. Drouin
WILLIMANTIC – David L. Drouin, of Willimantic died on February 17, 2017. He was born on June 28, 1916 in St. Julian, Canada and immigrated with his family to America when he was 11 years old.
He was an independent builder and contractor in the Willimantic area and was the first Town of Windham Building Inspector. He was an active and life member of the Elks Lodge #1311 where he served on the sick and visiting committee. He visited his ill brothers in the hospital and at home, bringing the newspaper for them to read. He attended St. Mary’s Church. He owned and operated the Red and White Grocery Store in the 1950’s and Olin Wallpaper and Paint in the 1960’s. As a young man David enjoyed tennis, playing the piano and the Hawaiian guitar.
He is survived by four children, Carol, David and wife Midge, Joan and husband Donald Leal, and Thomas and wife Petra; six grandchildren, Jaime, Jessica, Marissa, David, Nicole, and Rochelle; and four great grandchildren, Jenna, Stephanie, Joseph, and Travis. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Laura; 9 brothers; and 1 sister.
Calling hours will be held at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St., Willimantic on Friday, March 3, from 6 – 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, Willimantic at 10:00 am followed by the burial of his ashes next to his wife Laura at St. Joseph Cemetery. We would like to thank the Beacon Hospice and Orchard Grove Nursing Home for their loving care during the final years of his life.
