Obituary for Donat J. Durand
Donat J. Durand, husband of the late Dorothy W. Durand passed away in Ormond Beach, FL on January 25, 2012. He was born on April 15, 1917 in St. Zenon, Canada and immigrated to the United States in 1923 with his parents Archibald Durand and Rosilda (Rondeau) Durand. He served in World War II where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Donat was a resident of South Windham for many years and later moved to Edgewater, FL. During his life he worked for the railroad and then for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft (United Technologies) in East Hartford, CT. He is survived by four children, Donna Slate of Lebanon,CT, Darleen Hall of Hampton, CT, Douglas Durand also of Hampton, CT and Shoolah Escott of Lexington, MA. He also leaves six grandchildren, four great grand-children and several nieces and nephews. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him for his willingness to help in any situation. Donat also played the Harmonica and could be the life of any party. During his life he was a good citizen, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a faithful friend. His earthly candle has been extinguished but may his eternal candle burn brightly in heaven. Arrangements are being handled by Bacon Funeral Home in Willimantic, CT. Please join us for a graveside service to be held at Windham Center Cemetery, Rte. 203 in Windham on Saturday February 4, 2012 at 12:00 noon.
