Obituary for Dorothy E. Champagne
Dorothy E. Champagne, of Windham, died March 16, 2010. She is survived by two sisters Arlet Shiers and her husband William of St. Petersburg, FL; Esther Cleveland of Portland, ME; a brother Harold Walter Macomber and his wife Laura of Westbrook, ME; a Brother-In-Law Harland Harrison of Stafford Springs, CT; her children Glory Beer of Chaplin; Wesley Albert Champagne and his wife Christine of Warren, MA; Gail Ellen DaRos and her husband Gary of North Port, FL; Doreen C. Glendinning and her husband William Lovett of Willimantic, CT; Jane Alice Amarel of Manchester, CT and Richard Fuller of Woodstock, CT; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years Albert J. Champagne; her brothers, Wesley Dearborn and Walter Macomber Jr.; her sister Margery Fuller-White-Miller, and beloved Son-In-Law William O. Beer.
Dorothy was a communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in Willimantic and has lived at St. Joseph’s Living Center for the past 10 years. She was an active member of the Democratic party in Chaplin for over 20 years and served as Democratic Town Chairman for several terms. She was very proud that she was invited to attend the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. She and her husband were founding members of CHA-WI-MA Co-op as well as members of NAFCA. Dorothy worked for the American Screw Company, American Thread and Pratt and Whitney.
Calling hours are Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St., Willimantic, CT, followed by a procession to St. Mary Church, Valley St., Willimantic for the celebration of her Mass.
