Obituary for Dorothy J. Riquier

WILLIMANTIC - Our most beloved mother, Dorothy Jane (Suntava) Riquier, passed peacefully on Saturday, April 16, surrounded by her children. Dorothy was a devoted mother and wife. She approached each day with a vibrant curiosity continuing to embrace and learn from what came her way. Her quick laugh, cheery disposition and easy smile warmed the hearts of all who knew her and made her presence an unforgettable joy. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, her rock and an inspiration to others. She lived each day with generous gratitude. Dorothy loved gardening, studied voice, and sang as she cared for her home and tended to her family.  As her last days approached, she found her voice again singing to tunes she remembered.  The family is deeply grateful to the caregivers of St. Joseph Living Center for their tenderness and skill, as was Dorothy who was gracious with her appreciation for all their continuous care.

Dorothy was predeceased by Raymond J. Riquier, her husband of 48 years, and is survived by her children, Joann Halle (Stephanie Nagley) Silver Spring, MD; Theresa Hofmann (Johannes) Lebanon, CT; Karen Hellinger (Alfred) Weston, MA; and Paul Riquier (Debbie) Hampton, CT; and grandchildren Erik and Kurtis Hofmann and Danielle Crouch.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St., Willimantic, CT.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11am at St Mary Catholic Church, 46 Valley St., Willimantic, CT meeting directly at church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to Catholic Charities: www.catholiccharitiesusa.org/Donate
