Obituary for Edward G. Gawlak
Edward G. Gawlak, 75, of  Windham, CT, husband of the late Shirley (Coutu) Gawlak, died Thursday, 10/19/06, in the Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born Nov. 5, 1930 in Willimantic the son of Anthony and Mary (Zaklukiewicz) Gawlak. He was employed by Rogers Corp. in South Windham for 30 years, retiring in 1994. Edward was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Caperton. He was an avid Connecticut Huskies basketball fan, a member of the Pulaski-American Citizens Club and a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. His survivors include two sons: David Gawlak and his wife, Susan of North Windham and John Gawlak and his wife, Jill of Windham; four grandchildren: Leah and Eric Gawlak and Jacob and Shayla Gawlak. He also leaves three sisters: Helen Fiano of Bolton, Jean Strede of Coventry and Wanda Connor of Willimantic and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Steven Gawlak and a brother, William Gawlak. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10/21/06, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. The family will receive friends TODAY from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday, from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic.
