Obituary for Elsie Brown Enders
Elsie Brown Enders, 95, of Woodlake at Tolland, Tolland, CT, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Rockville General Hospital, Vernon, CT. She was born in Manhattan, NY on June 28, 1918 to James Arnold Brown and Annie Groth Sandford. Elsie graduated from Hunter College in NY with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish & German. Later she obtained her Master’s Degree in Spanish from Trinity College, Hartford, CT. In 1943 Elsie married her true love, Hubert Russell Enders. They met at the Aetna Life Insurance Co. where Hubert’s desk was right in front of hers.Elsie, Hubert and their daughter “Millianne” made their home in Windsor, CT until 1964 when they moved to Bloomfield. In 1977 another move was made to Stafford Springs, CT. Always volunteering her Spanish, Elsie was instrumental in developing the San Juan Center, Hartford, CT through Sacred Heart Church. With her husband and daughter, Elsie formed the popular “Blues Chasers”, a banjo sing-a-long band in which she played the piano. Elsie researched the dances of the Ragtime Era demonstrating these during family programs. Greatly loved by many, Elsie was known throughout her lifetime as a delightful, intelligent caring woman. Elsie is survived by her loving daughter, Millicent Enders Wong and her husband Edward of Mansfield, niece Sandra Frederick (who referred to her as “Auntie Mame”) of Hudson, Florida, nephew Ronald Enders of Louisa, KY, and sister-in-law Anne Grass of Parrish, Florida. At Elsie’s request, there will be no funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St., Willimantic, CT has care of the arrangements.
