Obituary for Ernest W. Welch
Ernest W Welch, 86, husband of Georgette Larochelle Welch, passed peacefully on Monday, October 19th 2020, after a long battle with Diabetes.
Born in Lewiston, Maine on April 10, 1934 to Edward and Emily Welch, Ernie served in the United States Navy, after which he went to work at Poland Spring Hotel as a chef assistant becoming a chef and traveled to Florida in the winter to a sister Hotel. Ernie loved to cook, he came to Connecticut in 1961 when he reunited with his teenage love Georgette. They were married on November 16,1963, living in Chaplin for over 40 years before moving to Storrs-Mansfield, where they have lived for the past 14 years. Ernie went to work at Brand-Rex and Kaplan Fruits and Vegetables. He then returned to his first love, cooking- managing Kentucky Fried Chicken in Willimantic for 25 years, training local teenagers in their first job. He created and ran K of C catering for various local celebrations. When K of C was sold, Ernie went to work as Produce Manager for Big Y in Mansfield and other local Big Y stores for 12 years. Upon retirement he went to work at Uconn' s dining hall as an entry monitor, interacting with the students that he enjoyed. Family was very important to Ernie, he loved his home state of Maine , family reunions, the great outdoors, fall colors,fishing, camping, horseshoes , darts and people.
Besides his wife Georgette , of 57 years, he is survived by his sons , Joel and Michael and daughter, Jamie as well as his son, Randall and wife Lisa his grandson Dylan, grandchildren and great grandchildren He is also survived by his sisters Pamela Cooper and Starr Sward, his sister in law Velvet Welch. He loved his nieces and nephews which are too numerous to mention but always in his heart and theirs. He was predeceased by his parents siblings and their spouses, brothers Russell and Patricia, Richard and Norma, Edwin, sisters Joyce and Walter, Bertha and Jim, his brothers in law Herbert and Carl and several nieces a d nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday April 10, from 1:00 to 2:00PM at Bacon Funeral Home 71 Prospect St, Willimantic. Burial will be private.
