Obituary for Eugene George LaPalme
Eugene George LaPalme, 86, of Chaplin, beloved husband of Mary (Bowen) LaPalme, died February 17, 2012 at home. He was born July 29, 1925 in Willimantic, CT the son of Phillippe and Rose (Dugas) LaPalme. A Navy veteran of World War 2, he served in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns and the occupation of Japan. Eugene was employed by the University of Connecticut for 32 years serving as a Facilities Operations Manager. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Gold Star Post 1724, the Franco-American Club and communicant of St. Mary Church. He was a free spirit who enjoyed riding in biplanes and on his motorcycles. Besides his wife his survivors include three children: Michael LaPalme and his partner Charles, Deborah Sehl and her husband William and Phillip LaPalme; also three stepchildren: Diana and Robert Saunders, John and Pat Sullivan and Charles Hart, He also leaves two sisters, Irene Bunte and Rita Rarey, several grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three siblings: Godfrey LaPalme, Sister Mary Phillip and Ernest Parker. His Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, 2/20/12 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Valley St. Willimantic. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Church, 80 Maple Ave. Willimantic, CT 06226.
