Obituary for Francesca M. Carbone

Francesca Maria Carbone went into God’s eternal light; she returned to her true home on August 26, 2020, she was 93 years old.

She was born in S. Eufemia d’Aspromonte, in Southern Italy and immigrated to Willimantic in 1966. She worked at Electric Motive and then at Brand Rex. Francesca and her late husband, Antonino, were farmers in Italy and avid gardeners of both vegetables and flowers here in her home. Francesca loved being surrounded by her flowers! They derived the most joy from spending time with their children and families. Francesca also loved to bake bread for her family and for her church, many people knew her as “the bread lady.” She baked the bread for certain holidays like Holy Thursday, had it blessed and gave it out to parishioners of both St. Joseph and St Mary’s Church at the end of mass services. She was the anchor of our family; the spirit in our souls, the sunshine in her smile that warmed our hearts. She instilled her deep faith in her children and grandchildren. Her endless love, joy, prayers and beautiful smile was an inspiration to everyone. Her last words were “love e bella”, love is beautiful.

She is survived by her six daughters, Angelina (Maria) Franco and husband Carmelo; Maria R. Carbone, Eufemia Dipollina and husband Rosario, Stella Ireland, Immacolata Dunia and husband Paul, Lucy Drabek and husband Bernie. She was blessed with 10 grand-children, Tony and Luciano Franco, John and Steven Dipollina, Brittany Barrett and David Ireland, Stephanie and Ryan Dunia, Alisha and James Drabek. She also leaves behind 8 great-grandchildren; Nikolaus, Emilio, Isabella, Michael, Rosario, Parker, Nicolas and Matthew.

She was predeceased by her husband Antonino, her parents, Cosmo and Maria Rosa Luppino and her four siblings: Francesco, Antonino, Giuseppe Luppino and Angela Carbone.

We want to give special thanks to Rosamaria Flegert for her tremendous help throughout the years, especially her assistance, love and compassion at the end of Francesca’s journey. We also want to thank Michelina DeSciscio who gave her incredible service and love in caring for Francesca. We appreciate the care given by the Hartford Healthcare Hospice Team.
