Obituary for George Rene Dominique
George Dominique, 82, of Scotland, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2015 at Windham Hospital, surrounded by his family, due to complications following a stroke. George was born October 5, 1932 in Connors, New Brunswick, Canada and immigrated with his family to St. Francis, Maine at age 10. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and served with honor and pride in the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was employed by the Electro-Motive Co. in Willimantic for nearly 20 years. He later worked at and retired from the UCONN Central Warehouse as a Crew Leader. George was a member of the Franco-American Club of Willimantic for over 60 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a great passion for the sport of boxing. He was also a devout New York Yankees fan despite being seriously outnumbered by a family of equally devout Red Sox fans. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Tatyana Dominique of North Windham; his daughter, Paula Dominique of North East, MD; stepchildren: Kathleen Clark of Willimantic, Diane Wallis of Colchester, Shirley Ogazalek of Mansfield, Richard Gesner of Scotland, Gail Creed of South Carolina and Irving Gesner of Illinois. He also leaves his brother, JP Dominique of South Carolina; his sisters: Dollie Carli of Salem, CT and Mae Raymond of Norwich; grandsons, Matthew and Alexander Dominique; granddaughters: Anna Lee, Wendy Bayer and Heather Massicotte; also many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Esther Dominique, brothers: Henrald Dominique, Peter Dominique and Rance Dominique, and stepson, Ernest Gesner. Visitation followed by a brief service will be Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic followed by burial with full military honors, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Windham.
