Obituary for George W. Gankofskie
George Gankofskie, 82, of Manchester, died July, 18, 2008, in Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband for 49 years of the late Doris (Briere) Gankofskie, who died in 1998. Born in Manchester, he was the younger of two boys, and grew up on a dairy farm there. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He spent most of his life running his dairy farm in Manchester alongside his wife and family. He spent many happy years in farming doing what he loved, and in a warmhearted home where everyone was always welcomed. He also spent many years working in construction, the later years with his son for Skip’s Home Improvements. He moved from Manchester to Windham in 1983 residing there for 17 years until moving back to Manchester in 2000. He leaves his son Ronald and his wife Lauren Gankofskie of Clinton, Maine, his daughter Christine and her husband Jeffery Mack of Vernon, seven grandchildren; Kalee, Jacob, Leah, and Seth Gankofskie of Clinton, Maine, Lisa and her husband Eric Bastien of Windham, Stephen Mack of Vernon, Daniel Mack of East Hartford, a great- grandchild Gavin Bastien of Windham, a brother Henry and his wife Lillian Gankofskie of Coventry, and nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. with a service of Christian Burial at Concordia Lutheran Church of Manchester. Burial will be in Windham Center Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St., Willimantic on Monday July, 21, 2008, from 7 – 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 40 Pitkin Streeet, Manchester, CT 06040.
