Obituary for Georgette (Lapierre) Mailhiot
Georgette Mailhiot, 93 of Mansfield passed away on Sept. 2, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Living Center. She was predeceased by her parents George & Ernestine (Vachon) Lapierre of Biddeford, ME, her sister and brother also of Biddeford, ME and her husband of 43 years Gerard Mailhiot. Georgette was born on November 18, 1923 in Biddeford, ME. Georgette and Gerard met at a New Years Eve dance and were married on Septmenber 9, 1944. In 1951 the family moved to Mansfield CT.
Georgette had 6 children. Rita and her husband Richard Despard of Crossville TN, Beatrice and her husband Harry Delorme of Crossville TN, Louise “Lucy” and her husband Edward Gaudreau of Mansfield CT, Diane and her husband Carl Smith of Columbia CT, Jerry and his wife Marianne Mailhiot of Crossville TN and Robert Mailhiot of Windham CT. She also leaves fifteen Grandchildren, seventeen Great Grandchildren and two Great, Great Grandchildren.
Georgette retired in 1985 from food services at the University of Connecticut where she was an assistant chef. She volunteered at the Immaculata Retreat House. She always enjoyed traveling with the Senior Center and going to play bingo in Chaplin. She was also always ready for a dinner out whether it was in town with her lady friends at Papa Gino’s or down at the shore. She loved spending time with all her family and growing her vegetable garden. Her family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, 9/7/17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 9/8/17, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 46 Valley St. Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Windham.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at St. Joseph’s Living Center for the years of kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Mary Church, 80 Maple Ave., Willimantic, CT. 06226 or St. Joseph’s Living Center 14 Club Rd., Windham CT 06280.
