Obituary for Gerhard Werner Hofmann
HOFMANN, Gerhard Werner, 84, of Lebanon, died on January 29, 2012. He was born in Zoeblitz, Germany on December 8, 1927, son of the late Kurt and Fannie Hofmann. He was the husband of Wanda (Becker) Hofmann. Gerhard immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1956, settling in Montana and eventually moving to Connecticut in 1959. He was employed by American Thread Company for 27 years as a pipefitter, and then for the Lebanon Public Schools as a custodian for 3 years prior to retirement. Besides his wife of 60 years, he leaves his son and daughter-in-law Johannes (Hans) and Theresa, daughter-in law Joyce, and four brothers Horst, Christian, and Gunter of Germany and Karl of Wichita Falls, Texas. Affectionately, known as “Opa” he is survived by his four grandchildren, Jason (Rebekah), Melissa (Kathey), Erik serving in Afganistan and Kurtis, as well as four great-grandchildren; Madison, Maisey, Skylar and Gunnar all of Lebanon. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Christian and brother, Godfried. Gerhard enjoyed the simple life of farming and his passion for gardening. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Lebanon.
His family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, 2/1/12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, 2/2/2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 321 Village Hill Rd. Lebanon. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Rd. Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 321 Village Hill Rd. Lebanon, CT 06249.
