Obituary for Gloria E. (LaVoie) Limanni
Gloria E. (LaVoie) Limanni, 87, died October 19, 2015 in Gentiva Hospice in Athens, GA, following a brief illness. She was born November 23, 1927 in Middletown, CT the daughter of Delia (Barr) and Alfred W. LaVoie, Sr. Gloria lived most of her life in Willimantic, CT where she met her husband of 64 years, Samuel J. Limanni, who predeceased her. She recently moved to Georgia where she was lovingly cared for by her daughter Sue. There she enjoyed life on the lake finding peace and happiness watching the birds and resting. She worked at the Electro-Motive for many years before making the choice to be a dedicated full-time mother to her four children. Gloria was a self-taught master of many talents which she shared with others for their enjoyment. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing her own clothes as well as garments for her family, friends and neighbors. She produced a gorgeous wedding gown for her oldest daughter as well as her own mother-of-the bride dress. She would never decline a request to hem or alter a garment even though she had little time to tackle the task. She had a gift for producing beautifully crocheted doilies and truly shined when she and her sister Lorraine hand crocheted her youngest daughter’s wedding dress and jacket. She loved to knit and would create sweaters, mittens, hats, scarves and afghans. In the last few years she has knitted over 350 baby hats for newborns at Yale New Haven and other hospitals. In addition to the hats, she also made lap blankets for the sick in the hospital in Virginia where her daughter Sharon volunteered. Gloria was an outstanding cook and when she decided to work in the Kramer Middle School kitchen, it wasn’t long before teachers and students were asking what home-made soup was on the menu that day. Everyone enjoyed her cooking! Gloria is survived by her four children: Sharon Gadarowski and her husband Frank of Forest, VA, Sue Marshall and her husband Tony of Eatonton, GA, Tom Limanni and wife Chris of Hilton Head, SC and Gloria Stollman of Colchester, CT. She also leaves her grandchildren: Kurt Gadarowski, Chad Limanni, Tiffany Limanni, Natalie Webb and Ryan Stollman; great grandchildren: Michael Wood, Jeremy Wood, Abby Limanni and Aidan Limanni. Also surviving is her brother Alfred Lavoie, Jr. and wife Katherine of Canterbury, CT and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Stacie Gadarowski Wood and three sisters: Theresa Horton, Lorraine Mazzola and Loretta Mellady and her brother Henry LaVoie. Her family will receive relatives and friends Monday, 10/26/15, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic followed by a procession to St. Joseph Church, Jackson St., for the celebration of her Funeral Mass at 11:00. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Windham. Please visit www.baconfh.com to register your condolences online.
