Obituary for Hector Joseph Bergeron
Hector Joseph Bergeron, died July 9, 2010 at the age of 92 at St. Joseph Living Center. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dolores Cloutier Bergeron. Hector was born June 7, 1918 in Willimantic the son of Zepherin and Mary Corinne (Boudreau) Bergeron. At the age of 16, he began working for his father in the Bergeron Shoe Repair Shop. After 49 years in the business, he sold it and retired in 1983. Hector entered the Army on October 15, 1941 as a Private in Medical Basic Training, and after three months, was a Medical Technician. When he was promoted to Staff Sergeant, he served with the Ground Force Replacement Depot in the European Theater of Operations until 1946. He served in the Medical Department attached to the Air Force. While in the service, he received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. He received his discharge on January 27, 1946. During his spare time, Hector could usually be found in his basement workshop or gardening. He enjoyed woodworking and made many items including furniture for the home, toys for the grandchildren and craft items. He was also known for his gardening skills, starting his plants indoors from seed, and getting an abundant crop from his small garden. Hector is survived by his son Kenneth Bergeron and his wife Susan of Enfield; daughters Jacquelyn Bergeron of Willimantic and Anne Marie Burnett and her husband Tommy of Texas. He also leaves 11 grandchildren: Kevin, Scott, Jeffrey, David, Melissa, Heather, Rebecca and Kimberly Bergeron and Benjamin, Aron and Christopher Burnett; 2 great grandchildren, a sister Mary Lou (Leo) Proulx and several nieces and nephews. Hector was predeceased by four brothers: Arthur, Edward, Wilfred and George Bergeron. His family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, 7/13/2010, from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT followed by a procession to St. Mary Church on Valley St. for the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham.
