Obituary for Helen A. Shirshac
Helen Anna Shirshac was called home to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2012. Helen was born November 28, 1929 to Charles and Helen (Keup) Dvorak. Helen was originally from Queens, New York and her high school years were completed at Woodstock Academy in Woodstock Connecticut.  Helen’s employment career included being the secretary at St. Mary –St. Joseph School in Willimantic, a switchboard operator at Windham Community Memorial Hospital and the former Director of Town Welfare here in Willimantic for many years until her retirement. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and she volunteered much time and talent to church activities.  Helen spent numerous years caring for her own mother until her mother’s death. Helen has spent the last four years of her life at St. Joseph Living Center where she came to love her roommate Viola, the residents, the volunteers and those who lovingly cared for her as “her family”.  Helen cared deeply for people and she brought love, laughter and hope to others’ lives in many different ways.

Helen will be lovingly missed by her daughter, Stephanie(Tabor) and her husband Jerry Iazzetta of  Willimantic their combined children of  Michael Tabor Jr., Carrie Fish and their son Zachary of Chaplin, Amy Tabor and her daughter Mykaela of Centennial, Colorado, Catherine(Iazzetta) Holden and her husband Lance and their children Tyler and Kylee of Spring Texas and her sons Steve Jr. and his wife MaryLynn of  Madison, Wisconsin, Robin and his wife Laurie of Hilo, Hawaii, Randy and his wife Ellen and their son Michael of Mansfield, Andrew and his wife Mary Ellen and their children Luke, Sarah and Emily of Amesbury, Massachusetts and Gary and his children Henry, Louis and Olivia of California and Groton, Massachusetts; a brother, Charles Dvorak Jr. and his wife Doreen who reside in Florida and Rhode Island and their children David, Richard, Kathy, Dan and their families, her “favorite cousin” Robert Werner, numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved circle of friends Hilda Byrne, Kay Lariviere, Martha Broder-Allard, Loretta Skaff and Edna Horan, who has gone before her to eternity. As Heaven embraces Helen, she can be heard exclaiming “Oh Boy”! 

Her family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, 7/12/12, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic followed by a procession to St. Mary Church, Valley St. Willimantic for the celebration of her Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Phillip Cemetery, Route 44 Warrenville (Ashford). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Living Center for eitherThe Recreation Dept., Pastoral Care or the “End of Life Suite” fund, 14 Club Rd. Windham, CT 06280.
