Obituary for Jane A. (Maxcy) Popeleski
Jane A. (Maxcy) Popeleski, 91, passed into the loving hands of the Lord on November 14, 2018. She was born April 23, 1927 in New Rochelle, NY. Jane was very proud of her Irish heritage. Her grandparents arrived from Ireland and established a Multi-generational family funeral business in upstate, NY. They eventually moved the business to New Rochelle, NY. Jane met and married John L. Popeleski after his return from military service at Pearl Harbor during World War ll. They settled in Mansfield Center, CT and raised 8 children. Jane was a treasured, loved and favorite mother, grandmother to 12 grandchildren, and great grandmother to 7 great grandchildren. Jane will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who met and knew her. She always had a positive attitude and a kind word for and about all. Everyone meeting her came away thinking, “what a nice lady I just talked to.” They were probably introduced to the term “honeysuckle” as she had several sayings that she used in her conversations. She was an outstanding mother in raising her 8 children and she will always be appreciated for devoting her life to this endeavor. In return, her children were able to set up a schedule to stay with her and help her with her daily tasks over the last several years so that she could spend them at home. A grateful thank you to Terri Stevenson who also stayed with and cared for Jane. Jane is predeceased by her parents Lloyd Maxcy and Mary (Sullivan) Maxcy. Her brothers: Lloyd, Walter and Joseph and her sister Mary. She is also predeceased by her husband John L. Popeleski, her son Luke Popeleski and son-in-law Michael (Wes) Coleman. Jane is survived by her children: Mark (Barbara) Popeleski, Frank Popeleski, John (Sandra) Popeleski, Nancy (Orlo) Popeleski Smith, Mary (Scott) Popeleski Bacon, Jane Popeleski and Joan Popeleski Coleman, along with 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Calling hours are Sunday, November 18, 2018, at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT. from 4 to 6 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 am in St. Joseph Church, Jackson St. Willimantic.
