Obituary for Jean B. "Rab" Dumas
Jean B. “Rab” Dumas, 83, of Willimantic, beloved husband of Gertrude (Fortin) Dumas, died March 22, 2008 in Douglas Manor in Windham.
He was born February 18, 1925 in Willimantic the son of Adelard H. and Delia (Routhier) Dumas.
He had worked for the American Thread Co. for many years and later retired from the Storrs Post Office. During World War 2, “Rab” served with the Army Airborne in Europe. A talented athlete, He was signed by the New Iberia Minor League Baseball Club but his career was interrupted by the war. He later played YMCA basketball for the Golden Eagles in the Sixties. He also coached in the Willimantic Little League. He was a member of the VFW Gold Star Post 1724.
Besides his wife, his survivors include six sons: Theodore Dumas of Jewett City, Dale and Gregory Dumas of San Diego, Gerard and Mark Dumas of Willimantic and Christopher Dumas of Manchester; ten grandchildren, and eight stepchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Rita Dubina of Willimantic and Therese Spangler of Virginia and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers: Paul, Gerard, George, Bernard and Francis Dumas.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, 3/28/08, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. There are no calling hours. The Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic has charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for the Willimantic American Legion Baseball Team, c/o Paul Martineau 70 McDermott Ave. Willimantic, CT 06226.
