Obituary for John E. "Jack" Mallon

John E. Mallon, of Mansfield Center, CT, died at home on March 8, 2010. He was born August 24, 1916 in Rockville, CT. “Jack” was predeceased by his wife, Rita Bacon Mallon, of 67 years and was her “greatest fan and pal.” A sergeant in the U.S. Army, he was a veteran of World War II, serving, in among other places, the 1944 Battle of Leyte, the largest air-sea battle in history. Mr. Mallon was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Corp. of East Hartford for 38 years. He lived in Willimantic before residing in Mansfield Center and was a communicant of St. Mary Church. His survivors include several nieces, nephews and numerous extended family and friends. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Alexander and William, and 3 sisters, Genevieve Warren, Bernice Reed and Cecilia Zimmerman. The family is grateful to those who provided comfort for Mr. Mallon during his illness. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 3/12/10, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 46 Valley St., Willimantic. Burial, with, military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery on Club Rd. in Windham. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Archdiocese of Hartford, Office of Radio and Television, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, CT 06712 to support televised Masses.
