Obituary for Joseph Gerald Ouellette
Joseph Gerald "Gerry" Ouellette, beloved husband of Irene (McClure) Ouellette of North Windham and Wildwood, FL, formally of Mansfield, CT, died on June 6, 2010.  He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after an eight year battle with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Gerry was born in Willimantic, CT on May 2, 1929 to the late J. B. Omer and Eveline (Bissonnette) Ouellette.  He is survived by the love of his life, Irene, to whom he was married to for 59 years.  He leaves behind children Michele Ouellette and husband Jerauld Manter of Boise, ID, John Ouellette and wife Jo of Mansfield, CT, Denise Washam and husband William of Chaplin, CT, Jacqueline Doughty of Ashord, CT, James Ouellette and wife Jodi of Chaplin, CT and Monique Schroll and her husband Charles of Colchester, CT.  He is also survived by his brother J. Robert Ouellette and wife Jennie, sister Dolores Dziekan and husband Roger, M. Yolande Marvel and Richard Tessier and a sister-in-law, Estelle Ouellette.  He is survived by fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grand children.  He is predeceased by brothers J. Normand and J. Jean Marc Ouellette, sister-in-law Jean Ouellette, brother-in-law Arthur "Mickey" Marvel and  son-in-law's Burton Whitehouse and Mitchell Doughty. 
Gerry graduated from Windham High School in 1947 and received an Associates degree from Hilliard College.  He served in the US army during the Korean conflict.  He worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for forty years, starting off in the paint shop in East Hartford and rising through the ranks to General Foreman before retiring in 1987. 
Gerry was a kind and gentle man who instilled a strong sense of family in his children and raised them to believe they could accomplish anything they set their minds to.  He travelled extensively throughout the world during his retirement years and was an avid Yankee and UConn Husky basketball fan.  He was a lover of music, enjoyed singing, reading and playing dominoes with friends.  He was a duckpin bowler at Lucky Strike Lanes and he still shares the four man team world record.  Gerry was a life member of the Willimantic Elks and Franco American Club.
Special thanks to Dr. Peter Jones, VNA East Tom Bergeron and Marlene Moulton, and the staff of the Critical Care Unit at Windham Hospital. 
Waking hours will be 6-8 pm on Wednesday, 6/9/10, at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St, Willimantic. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 6/10/10, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Valley St. Willimantic. Please go directly to church. Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Road in Windham, CT on.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 106 Route 32, Franklin, CT 06254.
