Obituary for Joseph Marcel Charron
Joseph Marcel Charron of Columbia, CT passed away on May 28, 2020. He was born in Willimantic CT on July 28, 1925 and was the son of Victor and Eva (Hebert) Charron. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris (Chalifoux) Charron.
Joe proudly served in the Navy during WWII on the ship the USS Luzon and during the Korean Conflict on the USS Bon Homme Richard. He was a life member of VFW. After the service, Joe worked at the American Optical Company in Putnam. He then worked at Pratt & Whitney from 1953 until his retirement in 1986. After his retirement, he worked part time as a lab courier for Windham Hospital. He always had a smile and funny comment to brighten everyone’s day.
Joe kept family and friends supplied from his vast vegetables garden. He was a Red Sox fan all the way and a big fan of UCONN basketball. He loved to go out dancing the Polka. After their retirement, Joe and Doris traveled on cruises to the islands and to Hawaii several times.
Come 4th of July, it was cookout time for the Charron family with friends and relatives. He loved being Pepe to his grandchildren Jeff, Lisa and Mandy and to his great grandchildren Nathan, Jayden and Ella.
In addition to his wife, Doris, he is survived by his sons Richard (wife Joan) of Ellington CT and Joseph (wife Liz) of Lebanon CT and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends Gary and Clare. He will be missed by all.
The family thanks the caregivers at Vanderman Place for the special care they gave Joe during this difficult time. Due to the pandemic, the funeral will be at the convenience of the family.
