Joseph S. Olszewski, 91, of Willimantic, CT, died September 25, 2009 in St. Joseph Living Center.        Â
He was born December 31, 1917 in Willimantic, CT the son of John and Mary (Malita) Olszewski.
He served in the Navy during World War 2 from 1943 to 1946 and was awarded the American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal. He had been employed by the Colt Firearms Co. in Hartford, CT and later Brand Rex Corp. in Willimantic. Joe was a talented baseball player in his youth and a longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox.
His survivors include a sister, Jean Janowski; a sister-in-law, Gloria Olszewski and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Albert Olszewski and a sister, Helen Wojnar.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 9/30/09, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. Calling hours are Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm and again Wednesday from 9:00 to 9:30 am at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic followed by a procession to the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 106 Route 32, Franklin, CT 06254.
