Obituary for Josephine J. Martineau
Josephine Jean  (Aligata) Martineau,   beloved wife of Armand A. Martineau, died Wednesday, July, 30, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Living Center, Willimantic, CT.   Josephine (Pippi) was born in Hartford, CT. to Emmanuela (Nellie) (Bordonaro) and Sebastiano Aligata on January 14, 1929.  Jo married Armand Martineau on June 25, 1949 at St. Anthony’s Church in Hartford.  They celebrated 59 years of marriage this past June.   She leaves three children, Joyce Hofmann of Lebanon, Tony and his wife Gail of Fryeburg, Maine and Steven and his wife Lynn of Atlanta, Georgia.  Jo leaves 5 grandchildren Jason Hofmann and his wife Rebekah, Melissa Hofmann and her partner Kathey, Erica Martineau, Timothy Martineau and Sydney Martineau and 4 great grandchildren Madison, Maisey , Skylar, and Gunnar all of Lebanon. She leaves sisters-in-law, Philomena Aligata Saccoccia, Marylin Aligata, Dorothy Martineau and brother in-law Charles Sanders. Pippi leaves numerous other family members including cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, her two sisters, Katherine Pasquale and Pauline Sanders, and three brothers, Sebastian, Salvatore, and Santo Aligata predeceased her.  She is also predeceased by her son-in law Christian Hofmann.  Josephine provided childcare at home for many years.  She loved working with children at the YMCA Latch-Key program and Natchaug School.  Josephine also worked at W. T. Grants. She volunteered in Willimantic serving on a Jury Duty Selection Committee, on the Library Board, and served on the Board of Directors of the Community Credit Union. While in Willimantic, she attended St. Mary’s Church, was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier in Hyannis, and most recently St. Francis of Assisi in Lebanon.  After retiring to Cape Cod with her husband in 1990, Jo enjoyed being closer to the ocean, and the beautiful Atlantic beaches.  Her hobbies included sewing , collecting books by Cape Cod authors, reading, playing cards and crossword puzzles.  But, her weakness for chocolate would always prevail.             The family and friends of Jo will gather at Bacon Funeral Home, for calling hours on Sunday, August 3rd from 6:00PM-8:00PM.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by  Rev. Brian Converse at St. Francis of Assisi, Lebanon on Monday, August 4th at 10:00AM.    Donations may be made in memory of Josephine to St. Joseph’s Living Center, 14 Club Road, Willimantic, CT. 06226.
