Obituary for Leo R. J. Adams
Leo R. J. Adams,88, of Willimantic, beloved husband of Laurianne (Rondeau) Adams, died Friday, 5/26/06, in Haven Health Center of Windham. He was born September 3, 1917 in Manchester, NH the son of Donat and Lucia (Fecteau) Adams. Leo had owned and operated Willimantic Power Equipment for 15 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the Navy for 3o years, retiring with the rank of Chief Machinist Mate. During World War 2, he was on the Yorktown at the battle of Midway. Once ordered to abandon ship he left her, but then volunteered to return to the ship to try to save her. He was ordered to evacuate a second time and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. Leo was a member of the V.F.W. Gold Star Post 1724, the American Legion James J. Shea Post 19, a life member of the Willimantic Elks and a communicant of St. Joseph Church. Besides his wife, his survivors include a sister, Lorraine Duchesneau and her husband, Bob of Mansfield, four nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 5/31/06, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. Calling hours are Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Wednesday, from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic.
