Obituary for Lincoln A. Phillips
Lincoln A. Phillips—life of the party, honorary mayor of Willimantic, beloved WILI weekend news anchor, and friend to so many—has prematurely passed at age 57.

Born in Willimantic in 1964, Lincoln never left town. It was his bastion, ruled from a bar stool at the Willimantic Brewing Company. A lifelong political junkie and history buff, Lincoln was the youngest person ever elected to a Windham Selectman seat at age 23 in 1987. A natural comedian borne from a difficult childhood, he was a man of conviction devoted to his beliefs and the well-being of his fellow man. Known for his gift of gab, Lincoln could talk to paint drying, but he preferred engaging with actual people of all persuasions.

He graduated with the St. Mary-St. Joseph School Class of 1979 and the Windham High School Class of 1983. He also attended Eastern Connecticut State University before embarking on a career at Travelers Insurance and retail positions with Caldor and the UCONN Co-op. For the past 22 years, Lincoln served as a member of the University of Connecticut Parking Services team. He was also a respected and widely heard weekend news anchor on WILI radio until 2020.

Lincoln was predeceased by his grandparents, his mother Ann Tepla Phillips, and his stepmother Anne Talbot Phillips. He is survived by his father Alan, sister Leslie (Doug) Tourigny, stepbrother Danny Shea, and a multitude of friends whom Lincoln considered family.

Lincoln was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Church in Willimantic where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Laurence LaPointe on Saturday, July 30 at 11am. A remembrance luncheon gathering will follow at the Willimantic Elks Club. Interment will be private. A GoFundMe page is accepting donations toward the remembrance luncheon expenses at
Tribute gifts may also be made in Lincoln’s memory to a Ukrainian relief organization of one’s choice. In Lincoln’s words: Slava Ukraini!
