Obituary for Lorraine L. (LaBrie) Luond
Lorraine L. Luond, 83, of Willimantic, widow of Edward J. Luond, passed away October 1, 2014 in Willimantic, CT. She was born September 4, 1931 in Willimantic the daughter of the late Leon D. and Clarisse (Boutin) LaBrie. Lorraine was a graduate of St. Mary School and later Windham High School Class of 1951. In her working career, she was employed by the Windham National Bank, the Electromotive Mfg. Co., the Connecticut Bank & Trust Co. and the Barnes & Noble Book Store on the campus of Eastern Connecticut State University. She liked to go fishing and loved Red Sox Baseball. She also liked to play Bingo and enjoyed trips to the two Connecticut casinos to try her luck. She liked antique places, flea markets and playing games on the computer. Lorraine was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Willimantic where she helped her husband count the weekly Mass collections and worked the church bingos from their inception. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son Mark E. Luond; two sisters, Doris M. Meraty and Lillian M. LaBrie; two brothers-in-law, James Meraty and Francis Luond; a niece, Nancy Meraty and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by two sons: Robert F. Luond of Willimantic and John M. Luond and his wife Deborah of Scotland and a granddaughter Elisabeth Luond of Norwich. She also leaves a sister-in-law O’Tila Luond of North Windham; two nieces: Marilyn Meraty of North Windham and Lisa Dudley and her husband Ron of Brooklyn, CT, and many cousins in New Hampshire, South Carolina and North Carolina. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, 10/6/14, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Jackson St. Willimantic followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Windham. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, 10/5/14, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Monday, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Church Repair Fund, 80 Maple Ave. Willimantic, CT 06226.
