Obituary for Louis E. Bacon
Louis Edmond Bacon, 88, of Willimantic, husband of the late Carol (Phillips) Bacon passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2020. He was born in Willimantic on July 24, 1931, the son of the late Edmond and Yvonne (Bergevin) Bacon. He was a 1951 graduate of Windham High School and a 1962 graduate of New England Institute of Anatomy, Boston, MA. Louie served three years, July 1947 to July 1950, in the National Guard and three years, August 1951 to August 1954, in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked at Mansfield Training School, Bacon Funeral Home, and Potter Funeral Home, from where he retired. Louie was a member of the Franco-American Civic & Social Club (President 1966), Elks Club, Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), American Legion, VFW, Windham Fish and Game, Fin Fur Feather, and Saint Mary’s Church. Louie was an avid outdoor sportsman and reader. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially football and UConn girls basketball. He had a fun sense of humor and will be remembered for his wit and charm and, of course, eating raw onions like an apple.

Louie is survived by his three children, son Louis J. Bacon and his wife Kristen of Columbia, son Glenn Bacon of Willimantic, and daughter Diane Schatz and her husband Fred of Columbia; his two granddaughters, Sarah and Samantha Schatz; his sister, Alma Zoldak; his sister-in-laws, Helen Bacon, Arline Bacon, and Paula Sherman; his “adopted sister,” Claire Kaminski; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife of 59 years, he was predeceased by his siblings, George Bacon, Lawrence Bacon, and Agnes Sellars. The family would like to thank Doctor Ralph Laguardia and Doctor Franklin Friedman for their many years of dedicated care and also the staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehab and Hospice of Hartford HeathCare for their compassion and care in his final months.

His family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, February 1st between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm at Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St, Willimantic prior to his 1:00 pm Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 46 Valley St., Willimantic. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Road, Windham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Mary’s Church Renovation Fund, 80 Maple Ave, Willimantic, CT 06226. To send an online expression of sympathy, please visit www.baconfh.com.
