Obituary for Louis M. Gamache
Louis M. Gamache, 87,
of Windham CT, husband of Mary (Vacca) Gamache, died peacefully at Windham Community Memorial Hospital on Oct. 18, 2017.
He was born in Willimantic May, 1, 1930, the son of the late Maria C. and Omer Gamache. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his discharge from the military, he attended and graduated from Willimantic State Teacher’s College. He taught school at Bennet Middle School in the Town of Manchester, CT. He was loved and respected by his students for 25 years until his career was cut short when he was forced to take early retirement due to a heart attack at 44 years old. Bennett Scholl has a Junior National Honor Society in his name because of the deep love and respect the students and staff had for him.
Louis was an active member of the Willimantic Country Club for 25 years. Golfing was a special part of his life with many of his friends at the Club. He loved working in his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.
Louis was very active in the Community and loved by everyone who knew him. He was honored by the Northeast Federal Credit Union with his picture posted in the Lobby because of his outgoing personality. Lou enjoyed having coffee with his friends at The Breakfast Place, Willimantic, CT.
Louis had a love of life and family. In addition to his wife Mary of 59 years, he is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Gamache and predeceased by his son Louis Gamache, Jr.
Louis will be forever missed by many friends and cousins, especially his beautiful family in Westerly, RI (Judy & Erick Guerra, and Carmine Dutra) where most every weekend was spent enjoying great food, playing cards and enjoying being together.

A mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church at 10am on Tuesday 10/24/17.
A burial service to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Club Road, Windham.
Following the burial, friends and family are invited to join Mary and Liz at The Willimantic Country Club on Club Road and enjoy a hot buffet in honor of Louis’s love of golfing, friends and family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Perception House, or Windham Center Fire Dept., or South Windham Fire Dept. or St. Mary Church.
