Obituary for Maria Czepizak

Maria Czepizak, 86, of Windham, Ct passed away peacefully on 18 September 2009 at Douglas Manor. Maria was born on 4 March 1923 in Ushkovych, Ukraine to Paraskevia and Teodor Maniuk. Together with her husband Mychajlo Czepizak, their pursuit of peace and freedom brought them to America. They found comfort in a supportive Ukrainian community centered on the Ukrainian National Home of Willimantic and St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. Mychajlo passed too quickly in 1972 but Maria continued to live independently in the home and flower gardens that she cherished. Maria had two sons, Walter and Zenon, who are thankful for her unwavering love and support. Walter and his wife Eileen live in Oakhurst, NJ. Zenon and his wife Janie live in Narragansett, RI. Maria felt the love of the extended families of Eileen and Janie. Maria’s grandchildren (and children of Zenon), Kurt and Lauren, have known a loving Baba that enjoyed entertaining their friends. Their mother, Tina Arnold, and the families of Colleen and Virginia Arnold, were dear friends that enjoyed dinners at the Bricktop. Maria enjoyed the friendship of the ladies in her church community and neighbors that provided companionship and help. Maria's thoughts and prayers were often with her brothers Slowko and Mychajlo and their extended families in Ushkovych and Lviv, Ukraine. Those that came to know Maria will miss her kind and gentle spirit, her hospitality and will remember her delight in feeding her family and friends. She loved music and singing and shared her cheerful outlook on life. Calling hours are Tuesday 22 September, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Panakhyda Service at 7 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic. A Panakhyda Service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a procession to St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Willimantic for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations, in her loving memory, may be made to St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 69 Oak St. Willimantic, CT 06226.
