Obituary for Nandor Orsos
Nandor “Andy” Orsos, 86 of Mansfield, CT passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at his home. He was born on August 10, 1936 in the Town of Csor, Hungary to the late Peter and Julianna (Zsedely) Orsos.

He was a carpenter by trade and built many houses in the Windham area including his home he built 2007. As a Hungarian youth, he worked in a coal mine in Communist-dominated Hungary. Like many of his young countrymen his life was transformed by the Hungarian uprising of 1956. Workers at the coal mine halted work one day and he was among the crowd that forced local officials out of the Town Hall in his native city of Fechervar Csurgo, about 45 miles from Budapest. Feelings of unrest, he and a companions slipped across the Austro-Hungarian border, some 230 miles away and was among thousands who fled from fear of Communist retribution.

Immediately following the escape from his country, he made his way and settled in Willimantic, CT. He was a cutting machine operator at the Electric Motive Company following employment at the American Thread Co. and stints on a tobacco farm in Bloomfield, CT. In 1965 he became a member of the Connecticut Carpenters Union, now Local #24 and a 56 year Honorary Member.

On March 14, 1986 he had the distinct honor of receiving his Certificate of Naturalization fully embracing the American dream and America as his new home. He fully cherished the blessings of privilege, responsibility and one of America’s greatest gifts – opportunity. He was the hardest working man, cutting firewood, tinkering with equipment and maintaining his home and property, only resting on Sundays. He took great pride in being independent and never asked for assistance. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Willimantic and a member of The Hungarian Social Club in Ashford, CT.

He leaves behind her 3 children, son Paul Orsos of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, daughter Brenda (Orsos) Bennett and son-in law James of Lebanon, CT and son Mark Orsos and partner Sharon Boisvert of Coventry, CT; grandchildren Ian, Joshua, Alexander, Amanda, Morgan, Parker and Andrew and many beloved nieces and nephews.
