It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Norman Licata Sr. while surrounded by his loving family. He passed comfortably on Sunday, July 10th, 2011 at the age of 81. Born on September 9, 1929 at Windham Community Memorial Hospital , he was the sixth of nine children born to the late Joseph P. Licata Sr. and Lily (Salveggio) Licata. Norman was an avid supporter of both community and country. He graduated in 1947 from Windham Technical School . While proudly serving his country from 1950-52 in the Korean War he was decorated twice with a bronze star. From 1996-99, he was the custodian for the Coventry School System where children, teachers and administrators loved his jovialness and work ethic. From the late 1960s through the early 1980s, Norman was very active in local community programs where he helped coach, teach and prepare youth athletes for the next level of sports and life. Members of the Willimantic Youth Baseball Farm Teams and especially the VFW Midget Football Program from that era will remember Coach Licata as hardnosed, patient and dedicated to teaching, but most of all, their biggest fan.
