Obituary for Olga E. Raymond
Olga E. Raymond, 90, of West Highland Rd, died suddenly on Monday evening, October 29, 2012 at her home.
On March 13, 1922 she was born in Ashford, Connecticut the daughter of the late Arpad and Ethel (Denes) Moricz.
Olga was the loving wife of Valentino J. Raymond. They were married on May 13, 1950 in Willimantic and have been married for 62 years.
She has been a Connecticut resident her entire life, growing up in Ashford and later settling in Mansfield.
Olga was a woman of many interests and talents. She enjoyed reading, crocheting Afghans and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She liked to garden, especially growing flowers, and loved being by the ocean. She spent many days at the beaches in Westerly, Rhode Island and more recently, going to beaches in Florida while visiting her daughter; and of course wearing her Birkenstocks. She was also an avid bowler, having bowled in various leagues when she was younger. She recently began bowling again and enjoyed spending time at the bowling alley with all of her friends. As passionate as she was about bowling, her greatest love in life was her family. There was nothing more enjoyable than family gatherings. She loved holidays and summer cookouts, but what she loved above everything else was being a mother and a grandmother. Her grandchildren were most precious to her, and she will live in their hearts forever.Â
In addition to her husband, Valentino, she is survived by four children, Valarie J. Raymond and companion, Jerry Volk, of Willimantic, Sandra F. Minchew of Chaplin, Douglas A. Raymond and wife Kari, of Coventry, and Marianne Chastain and husband David, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two sisters, Vilma Donofrio and husband Charles of PA and Emma Jarrett of CA; four grandchildren, Corey Minchew of Hartford, Kristy LeClair of Ashford and Erika and Kevin Raymond of Coventry; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen M. Raymond; brother, Archie Moricz; and sister, Ida Bua.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, meeting directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. For those who would prefer to make a donation instead of sending flowers, the family asks that you do so to your favorite charity in memory of their mom.
