Obituary for Peter Petruchik
Peter Petruchik, 82, of Mansfield Center, formerly of Windham Center, passed away at home on May 25, 2013. He was born July 9, 1930, in Franklin, New Jersey, son of the late Evan and Lydia (Styk) Petruchik. After graduating from Franklin High School, Peter earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Duke University in 1952. After college, he joined the United States Army, and served as a corporal at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. During these years, he traveled throughout the Southeast, playing collegiate baseball for Duke and then on Redstone’s team. Throughout his career, Peter worked in the wire and cable industry, beginning in the Westinghouse management trainee program. Following Westinghouse, he worked as a plant manager and general manager for ITT at manufacturing locations in Woonsocket, RI, Pasadena, CA, and Clinton, MA, and was the president of Brand Rex in Willimantic from 1977 until 1989. Peter will be remembered for his generosity, his words of wisdom, his competitive spirit, his love of sports, particularly baseball, and his love of fishing, both fresh water and deep-sea. Peter is survived by Florence, his wife of 59 years; his children: Kim Cavanagh and her husband, Steven, of State College, PA; Robin Whittemore and her husband, Douglas, of Storrs, CT; Peter J. Petruchik, of Norfolk, MA; Dwight Petruchik and his wife, Laura, of Honeoye Falls, NY; Beth Zimmerman and her husband, Kurt, of Wilbraham, MA; and his grandchildren: Ryan, Jennifer, Erin, Jill, Drew, Kate, Amy, Peter, Jessica, Meg, and Jake.There are no calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 1:00 PM, at The First Baptist Church of Mansfield, 945 Storrs Road, Storrs, CT 06268. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Eastern Connecticut, 34 Ledgebrook Drive, Mansfield Center, CT 06250.
