Obituary for Phyllis R. Truska
Phyllis R. Truska, 92 of Willimantic, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 7, 2021. She was born on April 7, 1929 in Willimantic, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Jagielski) Truska. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Raymond Truska, and her six sisters and brother-in laws: Loretta (Robert) Dineen, Josephine (Richard) Hosier, Stella (Arthur) Kavanaugh, Antoinette (George) Bernard, Ethel (Walter) Taylor, and Helen (Renaud) Sauve’. She is survived by her sister-in-law Ann Truska and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, who all loved her like a mother and who cared for her until this final day.
Phyllis lived in Willimantic all her life. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, graduated from local schools where she made life-long bonds with classmates, and worked in retail, her last position at Tubridy’s Department Store, where she was an expert at helping people with their fashion choices. Up until her confinement at home, whenever she was out dining or shopping, she would be recognized and approached by so many past customers, all excited to see her and she so happy they still remembered.
Phyllis loved family gatherings, which were many. She was the family photographer, capturing the joy and love at all the holiday parties, yearly 4th of July family picnics, and celebrations of family milestones. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
The family is grateful to Phyllis’s caregivers and friends, Shirley Van Alstyne and Michelina Desciscio, for the wonderful care, comfort, and support that enabled her to remain in her home for the last years of her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Nov 15, at 10AM at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St, Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 9AM until the Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St, Willimantic, CT. 06226. To send an online expression of sympathy, please visit www.baconfh.com
