Obituary for Raymond P. Theriault
Raymond P. Theriault, of South Windham, CT, passed away at his home Monday, 8/14/06. Ray was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Asselin) Theriault. He was born February 21, 1915 in Lowell, MA. Ray was a veteran, serving with the Navy in WWII as a turret gunner in TBF torpedo bombers. In 1965, Ray began Ray’s Electric Co. and many will remember the “school bus yellow” vans with “Watt’s my line” painted across the front. He was active in many social and fraternal organizations throughout the area including: the Franco-American Club, where he served a term as president, the Elks, the American Legion, the Moose, the Knights of Columbus, and the DAV to name a few. Ray also was the City of Willimantic’s Electrical Inspector for a time. If you were a Bingo buff, Ray can be remembered running the games at both the Franco-American Club and later, at St. Mary’s School in Willimantic. He was generous and contributed both time and money to his fraternal groups and to St. Mary’s Parish, where among other activities, he served as a lector at Mass. As a stubborn Frenchman, he liked to “discuss” the topics of the day and that probably led to his involvement in local politics for a time. He was devoted to his family and would help out in time of need with no questions asked. Ray was an avid card player and could be found some afternoons in the clubs, playing “Gin.” He also enjoyed trips to the casinos. Ray was a tremendous Sox fan and, and as any great Boston fan, he had two favorite teams, the Red Sox and any team playing the Yankees. Ray is survived by a sister, Georgette Cortemanche of North Carolina; his son, Raymond A. Theriault and his wife, Sheryl of South Windham; a grandson, Christopher Theriault and girlfriend, Marcia Haggett of Bolton; a granddaughter, Amie Theriault of Willimantic and great grandchildren: Madison and Jonathan Theriault and Brielle Lopez. Ray was predeceased by sisters: Alida Gagnon, Gabrielle Boisvert and brothers: Eugene, Euclide “Clyde”, and Leo. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, 8/18/06, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church in Willimantic. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic.
