Obituary for Richard T. Holton, Jr.

Richard Holton Jr. passed away peacefully on 10/8/17 at WCMH surrounded by his family and friends. Richard was born in Abbey, Georgia on 8/13/1932 to the late Richard Holton Sr. of Alma, Georgia and the late Stella Marie Mitchell of Bryceville, Florida. He entered the US Marine Corp in 1948. Served in the Korean War, Vietnam War and also was involved in the Cuban Crisis.
He retired from the Marines as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1968 in New London, CT. He received several campaign medals for his military service. After his retirement from the Marines he went back to school where he earned his G.E.D and three college degrees respectfully- Police Science, Criminal Science and Accounting. He also worked at Manchester Community College as a Chief in the police department. After his retirement from MCC, he opened and operated his own accounting and consulting business in Willimantic, CT on Main St. for 25 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann Nadile Holton of Willimantic, CT, of 62 years. He is also survived by, (son) Thomas Holton and Kimberly Wilson-Holton of Windham, CT., (son) Christopher Holton and Mary Holton of Virginia, and (son) Richard Holton III and Tara Holton of Manchester, CT.. He had seven grandchildren, Samantha, Ariel, Gabriela, Alejandra, Catalina, Connor and Brooke. He is preceded by sister, Sadie Jo Hunt of Bryceville, Fla., half-brother Vernon Holton. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was very active in the community- member of the Chamber of Commerce, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 14 in Willimantic, member of the local Lions Club and VFW Club, as well as the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts of America. He loved golfing, fishing and reading, but most of all his family and friends. He also cared very much for his two caretakers, Maria and Orisia. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to: St. Joseph Church Repair Fund in Willimantic or the Knights of Columbus Council 14. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 13, at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Church, 99 Jackson St, Willimantic, meeting directly at church. Burial, with presentation of military honors, will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5-7 pm at Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St, Willimantic.
