Obituary for Richard J. Hope
Richard J. Hope, 91, of Colchester, formerly of Willimantic, husband of the late Lorraine (Syphers) Hope passed away Sunday April 28, 2019 at Apple Rehab in Colchester. He was the son of the late Clayton and Mary (Chartier) Hope.
Born on March 9, 1928, he lived in Willimantic for most of his life before moving to Colchester. He worked for Prudential Insurance as a salesman for 34 years until his retirement. Church and family were a bedrock of his life. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and watching baseball and UCONN women’s basketball games. In his spare time he loved to paint. He was extremely positive and took what God gave him and never complained after his spinal cord injury. We never knew how much he touched people’s lives until his final days when staff from Apple opened their arms to our family to let us know. For this we are truly grateful.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen Haggerty, Deborah Oliver, Patricia Richardson and her spouse, Ronald, Thomas Hope and John Hope; his grandchildren, Jason and Clayton Stimson, James Oliver IV, Zachary Connor, Michael Hope, Sam and Ceilhi Richardson and many grandchildren and great grandchildren he adored. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Richard.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday April 30, 2019 from 6 to 8PM at Bacon Funeral Home 71 Prospect St, Willimantic and on Wednesday May 1, from 11:30AM to 12:30PM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1PM at St. Mary Church 57 Valley St, Willimantic. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Windham. To send an online expression of sympathy, please visit www.baconfh.com
