Obituary for Rita B. Kubovic
Rita B. Kubovic passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at St. Joseph Living Center in Windham, CT at the age of 90 after a brief period of failing health.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frederick A. Kubovic, who died in 1998.  Although both Rita and Fred had significant visual impairment, they lived independently and maintained their own home in Windham and experienced a long and happy marriage together.  After Fred’s death, Rita moved to St. Joseph Living Center, where the staff and residents became her new and extended family.  Rita was a true lady who displayed a quiet reserve and gentle dignity in life.  She was strong in her faith, modest to a fault, and yet her opinions and counsel were sought out and valued by staff and residents alike at St. Joseph’s.  She was a mentor and friend to many of the residents there and served as a member and president of the Resident Council.  Although Rita lived for virtually her entire life without the benefit of sight, she possessed a great inner strength and never complained of it nor utilized it as an excuse for anything.  Rather she, as well as her condition, served as a source of inspiration for all who were blessed to know her.  She leaves special friends:  Martha, Debbie, Dorothy, Lestina, Irene, Elsie, Beverly, and Caroline, as well as the caring staff of St. Joseph’s.  Contributions in Rita’s memory may be made to the St. Joseph Living Center, 14 Club Rd., Windham, CT 06280, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.  A memorial Mass in her memory will be held at St. Joseph Church in Willimantic on Wednesday, July 22, at 10am.  The Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St., Willimantic, CT is in charge of the arrangements.
