Obituary for Rita E. Vadnais Edwards
MANCHESTER – Rita E. (Diette) Vadnais Edwards, 75, of Manchester, formerly of Hampton, CT, died on Tuesday morning at her home.
On April 24, 1934 she was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the daughter of Homer and Lillian (Comtois) Diette.
Raised in Coventry, she was a graduate of Windham High School Class of 1952 and worked for many years in the Accounts Payable Department at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
Rita was first married to Donald Vadnais until his death in 1962. Several years later she married Maurice Edwards. He predeceased her in 1983. She was a resident of Hampton for many years and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Willimantic. For the past three years she has been living in Manchester with her daughter Lori, and was attending St. Bartholomew Church in Manchester.
Rita was a kind and gentle person who loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She liked playing cards and doing needlework but her real passion was reading. She spent many hours at the Fletcher Memorial and Mary Cheney Libraries in Hampton and Manchester, and would read several books each week. She was an active member of the Franco American Civic & Social Club in Willimantic.
She is survived by her children, Lorena “Lori” Vadnais of Manchester and Michael & Nellya Vadnais of River Falls, WI; three step-sons, John, James and Paul Edwards; two sisters, Eva & Normand Valliere of Columbia and Anita & Maurice Gamache of Lebanon; sisters-in-law, Debra Diette of Chester, VT, Rita Vadnais and Shirley & Douglas Bellows of Willimantic, CT, and brother-in-law Leonard Vadnais of North Carolina; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; she was predeceased by her brother, Raoul Diette.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St, Willimantic, followed by a Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Church, Willimantic at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
