Obituary:
Robert E. Mellady, 83, of Willimantic, CT, beloved husband of the late Loretta (LaVoie) Mellady, died March 21, 2013 in the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, CT. He was born December 31, 1929 in Willimantic the son of John F. and Olivette (Rouette) Mellady. He was employed for 30 years by Roddy’s Bus Co. and also worked for Arrow Bus Lines. Bob later was employed by the Brand Rex Co. During the Korean War, He served with the Army in Germany and later was in the Army National Guard’s 248th Engineer Co. for 21 years attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Bob was a life member of the V.F.W. Gold Star Post 1724, the Knights of Columbus and communicant of St. Mary Church. His survivors include three daughters: Roberta Mellady of Southwick, MA, Dianne Mellady and her partner Donald Michel of Pawcatuck, CT and Nancy Eastman and her husband Robert of Enfield; also eight grandchildren: Melissa, Cassandra, Ashlee, Michelle, Jennifer, Jessica, Billy and Bobby. He also leaves his great grandson, the light of his life, Landon. Also surviving are several brothers and sisters. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, 3/26/13, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic followed by a procession to St. Mary Church, Valley St. Willimantic for the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Windham.
