Obituary for Shirley M. Bombria
Shirley M Bombria, 87, of Windham, passed on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at her second home of Douglas Manor in Windham. Shirley lived her entire life in Windham and was the wife of Henry R Bombria, Sr for 36 years. Henry passed in 1991. They were very devoted to each other and their 6 children. Born in Windham on September 6, 1934, she was a daughter to her late parents Ernest and Olive Desrosiers.

Shirley was a retired employee of the State of CT. She worked in the town of Windham as the Senior Advocate of the Elderly and was active with the Democratic Party in town for a period of time. She also volunteered her time at a school in Windham for a period of time working with students.

During her stay at Douglas Manor, Shirley contributed to everyone’s life there as a Resident Representative. She did the morning announcements daily and was known for her joke of the day. She also was quite active in coloring the many monthly calendars for the residents and staff of whom she would personalize with their favorite colors. She was loved by much of the staff there and always had a kind word for them and a little chocolate treat available for them. The staff at Douglas Manor became her second family and they took very good care of her. Word search puzzles and creating cards to pass out for birthdays and thank you was another favorite hobby.

Cherishing Shirley's memories are her children, Gail and her husband Kiev Federowicz and their daughter Kes of Storrs, Marlene Bombria and her son Brian and daughter Rachel (March 12, 1987- March 12, 2018) and Rachel’s daughter Leah Richardson, Nancy and her husband David Bobbin and their son Timothy of Preston, Henry Bombria Jr and his wife Suzanne and son Shane, Ernest Bombria of Windham, and Karen Bombria and her daughters Madeline and Autumn. She is also survived by her brother Donald Desrosiers and his family, her remaining sisters-in-law, Sarah and Alice, and brother-in-law Grant. Shirley's sister Elaine predeceased her.

Shirley's life celebration will be a private family event for a later date. The family would like to send a grateful heartfelt thank you to everyone at Douglas Manor for their exceptional personal care and support of Shirley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Douglas Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Windham (103 N Rd, Windham, CT 06280) to benefit the residents who live there.
