Sofia Peca, 97, passed away on Tuesday May 16, 2023 at Douglas Manor. She was the wife of the late Gregory Peca.
Born on August 10, 1925 in Vytvytcha Ivano- Frankivsk, Ukraine she was the daughter of the late Mihalyo and Teressa (Sadurska) Tyshkiwski. She retired from UCONN and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Ukranian Church in Willimantic. She was very devout in her Catholic religion and was also known as the pierogi lady. She was always there for her children who were her life. At 16, she was forced into the German labor camp during World War II and experienced some horrific things. She then went to Belgium and then to the United States. The family would like to give a great thanks to the wonderful staff at Douglas Manor.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Slava) and Sonny Smith, daughter-in-law Irene Petsa wife of the late Anatole Petsa; her son, Eugene (Sharon) Petsa; 7 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren and 3 great greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her greatgrandson, Brandon Tully.
Relatives and friends may visit the family on Friday May 19, from 6 to 8PM at Bacon Funeral Home 71 Prospect St, Willimantic with a Panachyda at 7PM. Relatives and friends may gather on Saturday May 20, at 9:30AM at the funeral home followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Ukranian Catholic Church 70 Oak St, Willimantic for the Celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 10AM.
