Obituary for Sofija Dancuk
Sofija (Shivinski) Dancuk,88,  beloved wife, mother, babcia and baba died peacefully surrounded by family on October 12, 2015. Born July 16, 1927 in Lisija, Bosnia to Dmitar and Maria Shivinski. Sofija was the youngest of eight children and later married the love of her life Nikola on October 9, 1948. Sofija and Nikola immigrated to America in 1967 with their family for a better life. She worked at the American Thread and the University of Connecticut until she retired. Sofija was a devout Catholic and member of Saint Mary’s Ukrainian Church in Willimantic. Sofija was a member of the choir and loved volunteering her time to the church and engaging in activities within the church. She loved her family and enjoyed raising her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sofija also loved to play the harmonica and make pierogis for her family, especially during the holidays. Her family will forever remember sharing holidays at her home and will greatly miss her huge heart and love she shared for her family and children. Sofjia is predeceased by her husband Nikola. Sofija is survived by her three daughters Vera Maddux and her husband James of Windham, Nada Wasynczuk and her husband Stephen of Willington, and Lupka McBride and her husband Robert of Windham. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren. Slauka Bobrek of Florida, Tanya Becotte and her husband Brian of Griswold. Nikolis and his wife  Kristen Wasynczuk of West Hartford, Alicia Wasynczuk of Milford, Stephania McBride of Manchester, Justin McBride of Manchester and Devan McBride of Windham. Sofija also leaves behind five great grandchildren. Spencer and Alex Beaudreault of Florida, Brianna and Natalie Becotte of Griswold, and Amelia Dawiczyk of Manchester. The family will receive friends Friday, 10/16/15, from 6 to 8 P.M. with a Panakhyda Service at 7 P.M. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, CT. A Panakhyda Service will also be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a procession to St. Mary Ukrainian Church, Oak St. for the celebration of the Devine Liturgy. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Club Rd. Windham. Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Douglas Manor for the exceptional care provided Sofija.
