Obituary for Sophie D. (Fazzino) Silverio
SPRAGUE: Sophie Dorothy (Fazzino) Silverio, 92, died on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the St Joseph Living Center in Windham, CT after a short illness.
She was born in New Britain, CT on November 2, 1919, daughter of Frank and Josephine (Rio) Fazzino. She lived in New Britain for most of her life before moving to Sprague in 1983.
Sophie attended schools in New Britain. She was employed for over 25 years at the Fafnir Bearing Company. She retired in 1982, and then moved to Baltic to be with her daughter and her family.Â
She was a faithful parishioner at St. Ann’s Church in New Britain for most of her life. She attended St Mary’s church in Baltic, and then to St. Joseph’s Church in Willimantic. She was active in many guilds and societies there, and was a good friend to the Reverend Edward Frigault.
On October 4, 1941 she married Louis Silverio in New Britain, CT. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1991 with a party of family and friends. He passed away in 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Lois (Silverio) Chrzanowski of Baltic, son-in-law Vincent Chrzanowski, and three grandchildren, David Chrzanowski of Woodbridge, CT; Lisa Ridges and her husband Russell of Kaysville, Utah; and Sarah Herrick and her husband Christopher of Norwich, CT. She also leaves six great-grandchildren, Conner & Jackson Ridges; Zachary & Chloe Herrick; and Tyson & Kendall Chrzanowski. In addition she leaves two sisters, Millie Tora, and Angelina Alteri, both of New Britain, a devoted nephew, Anthony Fuschillo of Oakland, CA; a special niece, Joan Silverio of Newington, as well as many other nieces, nephews, three sisters-in-law, Minnie Rosiek and Anna Phillips of New Britain, Lucy Silverio of Plainville, CT, a brother-in-law Arky Silverio and his wife Janet of Cape Cod, and many other relatives and friends. Sophie was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Fuschillo, and Zena Iskra.
           Sophie will be most remembered for her love of family, friends, church, and sports, especially her enjoyment of watching the NY Yankees and UCONN Huskies. She was a hard worker, had a lot of spirit, and was always willing to help a friend.
           We are especially grateful to the staff and volunteers at the St Joseph Living Center for the love and care shown to Sophie and her family.  We appreciate the devotion of our cousin, Gerry Kuronya, for all her love and support.
           Honoring Sophie’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held for her at St. Joseph’s Church, Jackson St., Willimantic, CT on Tuesday, June 19th at 10:00. The Bacon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at the St Joseph cemetery in Windham. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St Joseph Living Center in Windham, CT.
