Obituary for Sophie (Konow) Iwach
Sophie (Konow) Iwach, 95, of Lebanon/Willimantic, beloved wife of William Iwach, died Saturday, 4/21/07, in Windham Hospital.
She was born March 25, 1912 in Ukraine the daughter of Sofat and Mary (Lychack) Konow.
She worked for the Ponemah Mills in Taftville, the Baltic Mills, the American Thread Co., and retired from the University of Connecticut. Mrs. Iwach was dedicated to caring for the elderly and loved animals and flower gardening. Proud of her heritage, she was active in the Ukrainian community. She was a member of St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church and a charter member of the Ukrainian National Home.
Besides her husband, her survivors include three sons: Benjamin Postler and his wife, Ann of Scotland, William Postler and his companion, Cecile Lehoux of North Franklin and Philip Postler and his wife, Maureen of Hanover; a daughter, Doris Emigh and her husband, Donald of Maine and a brother, Henry Konow of Franklin. She also leaves fourteen grandchildren, including Deb Adams, who cared for her in recent years, fifteen great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one grandson, one great grandson, two brothers and one sister.
A Panakhyda Service will be held Tuesday, 4/24/07, at 9:30 a.m. in the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church on Oak St. for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Pautipaug Cemetery in North Franklin. The family will receive friends TODAY, Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ukrainian Catholic Church Youth Group, 70 Oak St. Willimantic, CT 06226.
